Story

From the heart of Ethiopia’s revered Sidama region, Kontema Station offers exceptional green coffee sourced from over 1,000 smallholder producers. Operated by the Dukamo family and exported through Daye Bensa, this station is part of a network that includes 20 washing stations and five mills. The farmers, working on small plots without chemical inputs, grow coffee that’s naturally organic, nurtured in rich soil at high elevations. Though challenges like limited infrastructure and farming resources persist, Daye Bensa’s “Back to the Community” initiatives are making a real difference—building roads, installing electricity, and providing essential agronomy training.

Founded by Asefa Dukamo, whose journey began with hand-delivered cherries in his youth, Kontema showcases meticulous processing: selective handpicking, density sorting, fermentation for 48–72 hours, and sun-drying on raised beds for up to 15 days. The result is a vibrant, traceable Sidama coffee with exceptional character—ideal for roasters seeking a high-quality, ethically produced lot.
